Konjac sponge. Haven't heard of it?

Well, if sustainable, vegan-friendly beauty is your vibe, then a konjac cleansing sponge might just be a skincare routine game changer.

Japan's secret to seriously smooth skin, the humble konjac sponge is the under-the-radar essential buffing your face to flawlessness one cleanse at a time.

WHAT IS A KONJAC SPONGE?

Imagine a gentle cleansing exfoliator made from natural konjac root (a porous vegetable that grows in Asia). They're a much gentler way to exfoliate dead or dry skin during your daily face wash.

TIP: Japanese Konjac sponges harden when dry, so simply let them soak in the shower or sink for a minute to soften them up before using.

They come in different colors. Different color konjac sponges mean different active ingredients.

For example, grey would be infused with charcoal, green would be green tea and red might be cherries. The options are endless!

Our konjac is completely natural (100% glucomannan fiber), vegan, non-toxic, antimicrobial, biodegradable (no harmful plastic microbeads).

If you thought it couldn't get any better, you are wrong. The konjac facial sponge is also rich in vitamins like A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, and E, as well as proteins, lipids, fatty acids, and minerals like copper, zinc, iron, and magnesium.

As it’s a naturally alkaline plant with a neutral pH, that means that it can help balance the skin, and it won’t damage the epidermis either, therefore our konjac root sponge is also great for acne-prone skin.

The natural konjac sponge has a soft texture making it gentle, safe, and will not scratch skin while washing away grime, dirt, oil, dead skin cells. They'll leave your face beautiful, balanced, and glowing.

Used daily, promotes blood circulation, and prevents the formation of wrinkles.

WHY USE A KONJAC SPONGE?

Benefits of Konjac Sponge

1. Are you trying to get rid of breakouts or acne?

If you suffer from clogged pores and tried everything without any result, due to its fibers, the organic konjac sponge can help unclog them. It also has antimicrobial properties that will help kill acne-causing bacteria, at the same time eliminating blackheads, dirt, and oil.

 2. Do you want to get a more radiant, glowing skin?

Our pure konjac sponge works great as an exfoliator, without damaging the skin in the process. Using it regularly will give you a glowing, radiant complexion, leaving your skin as smooth as a baby's bottom.

 3. Would you like to have longer lasting make-up?

During the exfoliation process, the konjac sponge removes all the flaky skin, moisturizing it in the process, therefore nothing can now interfere between you and your make-up.

Also, the konjac sponge is the best thing you can use for removing make-up, being able to delicately remove even the most stubborn products. Used with your favorite cleanser and water, it will efficiently remove all the make-up, and, due to its soft texture is safe to use around the eyes as well to better and easier remove your mascara.

4. You want to cleanse your skin without drying it out

One of the most common mistakes I've witnessed is trying to dry out your oily skin. It will only end up producing even more oil. That's why the konjac sponge is a great cleanser, because it gently exfoliates without drying it out, which will result in dull-looking skin, more prone to acne.

As an extra step, you can take for your moisturizing process, try adding a drop of your favorite face oil on the sponge and gently massage it into your face.

5. Your skin is sun-damaged

Ever stayed too much in the sun, and then realize a few days after, little pieces of your skin start coming off? The konjac facial sponge will gently slough off the dull, dry flakes that typically come along with it.

But, if this never happened to you, then you must be part of the smart people who use SPF creams on a daily basis. However, the konjac sponge is great for you also, by helping remove the stubborn, water-resistant cream that hardly comes off with water alone or other cleansers.

6. It's safe to use on babies

Not only great for adult's sensitive skin, but konjac sponges are a perfect choice for cleaning your baby sensitive skin also, making them an essential item for your baby's bath time. Use them in circular motions to massage their delicate skin.

HOW DO YOU USE A KONJAC SPONGE?

So much more than your regular dishwasher, konjac sponges have a multitude of benefits. But how to make the most of the humble sponge?

1. Use it twice a day

Because it's a gentle exfoliator, it's safe to even use it twice a day for a smoother, and more glowing complexion, without worrying about skin irritation of a regular scrub.

Try using the natural konjac sponge for a lighter cleansing in the morning to get rid of all the remnants of your overnight skincare regime.

Before going to bed at night, try a double scrubbing, adding your favorite cleanser to the charcoal konjac sponge, to clarify and rebalance the skin.

2. Use with water alone, or add your favorite face wash

The first time you'll touch the konjac sponge, you will notice the tight, firm texture.

That's why, before using it, the first step is to submerge it in warm water for 1-2 minutes, until the sponge will expand and become soft and lovely to use.

Remove it from the water and then gently squeeze the excess before using it.

You can start cleansing your face with the konjac sponge as it is, without adding anything extra, because the sponge itself comes with a variation of active ingredients.

Or, choose to double cleanse by adding to the process your favorite cleansing lotion and use it all over your face. Rinse the sponge and go for a second cleanse with water alone.

Don't worry about avoiding the skin around your eyes. The sponge is so gentle that it's safe to use it to get rid of tough eye-make-up without irritating this sensitive area.

3. Use circular motions

Use light circular motions all over your face to lift and eradicate make-up and daily grime. Don’t be afraid to really get into those awkward areas -nose, eyebrows, and eyes- to make sure make-up is removed.

Always rinse between each use, and then use over the face with water alone to finish your cleansing routine.

4. Squeeze and let it dry

As soon as you're done using the facial sponge, give it a final rinse and then squeeze out the excess water. Hang it out to dry properly, but make sure it's not in a humid environment, to avoid mold, or bacteria to infiltrate.

5. Replace after six weeks

Since Konjac sponges are 100% natural, after a while, they will start to biodegrade. However, if you take care of it, the sponge should last you from 6 to 10 weeks, then you should replace it, just to make sure your skin stays healthy and clean.

6. Great for face and body

Planning on getting a fresh tan? Then, the konjac sponge is your new best friend and your secret weapon.

Soak it in water and take it into the shower with you. It will work miracles on your extra-dry, flaky, or acne-prone areas like elbows, ankles, knees, giving them a deep clean and a great exfoliation.

Great for the pre-tanning exfoliation, the natural sponge won't interfere with the tan line an oil-based scrub would, as it doesn't impart any chemicals.

7. Compost it afterward

We are very thorough when it comes to skincare, that's why it's important for us that the products we use to be eco-friendly.

Our konjac sponges are 100% biodegradable so they can be composted along with your vegetable, fruit, and plant leftovers – happy skin and a happier environment!

HOW TO CLEAN A KONJAC SPONGE

While it's no need to deep-clean the konjac sponge after each use, we're all about squeezing the last drop of product out of our products and making them last as much as possible.

Our strategy is beyond simple: Between each use, wash your Konjac Sponge with gentle soap and water and let it dry out. Give it a deep wash every two weeks to keep it fresh and clean.

  • How to deep clean?
  1. Boil a pot of water, then bring it to a simmer before gently adding your konjac sponge inside. Let it simmer for 3 to 4 minutes to kill makeup and dirt residue. Carefully remove it from the hot water, squeeze it, and hang it to dry. Make sure you allow it to dry completely for best results.
  2. Microwave this baby just like you would do with your kitchen scrubber. Dampen it with warm water, place it in a microwavable bowl with a touch of water and 3-4 minutes should be enough to bring it back to life. Carefully remove it from the bowl, and hang it to dry. How easy is that?

HOW AND WHEN TO DISPOSE OF THE KONJAC SPONGE

Your skin will thank you for swapping in a fresh sponge every 6-10 weeks. You will know it's time to move on when it changes form or color, even after the deep clean.

Since the konjac sponge is 100% natural, it can be composted or left to bio-degrade naturally after use.
